The scene was a little crazy. Hours had passed and in that time we had been searched by the Secret Service, ATF, and a pair of bomb sniffing dogs. Then we were sequestered from area to area around the Verizon Center as preparations for the days activities were made. But all that had passed, and now I was sitting down in the dining room watching Jessie Frye scarf down a slice of pizza that she had been waiting hours to enjoy. Victory. The sweet taste of victory.
Just minutes earlier she was onstage performing stripped down versions of her songs Big Bad Wolf and One In Million, with temporary guitarist Dustin Fleming (Vandoliers),to over 9000 screaming Bernie Sanders fans in front of them. Some of those fans singing the chorus of the later song back to her. A once in a lifetime opportunity had been made available, opening for a Democratic Presidential Candidate on his North Texas stop, and Jessie and Dustin had delivered.
But now all the nervous, stress, and anxieties were completely gone, and Jessie was allowed to enjoy her pizza while the rest of her crew kept an eye on the door for the man of the hour, Senator Bernie Sanders, to make his entrance, walk out on stage, and slay his supporters.
And that's what Bernie did.
It was a day that none of us will soon forget, especially one Jessie Frye, who had written a song in her bedroom and was now performing it before thousands. Thousands at a Presidential Candidate's Rally.
