If you take a look through this blog I don't think I've made it much of a secret that the Burning Hotels are one of my favorite local bands, and over the past few years I've probably seen them a couple of dozen times. But their headlining show at the Granada this past Saturday, part of the inaugural "Local Edge Presents" showcase, easily rivaled some of the greatest local shows I've seen, including those of Tripping Daisy, The Toadies, and Brutal Juice. Playing a set that spanned their entire catalog, the near capacity crowd ate up every second of the hypnotic laser and light show and the intensity in which fan favorites were played. Wild dancing in the aisles, random fist pumps in the air, the only thing that was a little off was the smattering of booing when the band announced they were from Fort Worth. Geographically I guess the two cities are 30 miles apart, but we are still one giant metropolis and one local music scene, I don't get the hostility. But that aside, the boys did a fantastic job Saturday, and the Granada was completely electric. It was like seeing the little band we enjoyed in the old days of the Wreck Room all grown up and heading out the door to tackle the world!
